Get a Jump on the Season

DUNNIGAN—It’s time to smell the gun powder, snap some caps, and get a jump on the hunting season at Raahauge’s Hunting and Sporting Clay Club located in Dunnigan.  Raahague’s 2,400-acre hunting club.

The sporting clay range is well thought out and challenging. As shooters walk up the old rustic cowboy trail to the different shooting stations, the trail ads an old west ambiance to the range. Also, shooting between the hills and over the draws adds to the flight projectory of the clay birds.

“We are a customer service oriented business with a low key atmosphere,” said owner Terry Raahague. “I’m also a very social person that enjoys people and the hunt club business. In our ads we advertise, “Hunting and sporting clays at its finest,” and we stand behind our motto.”
Raahague is no newbie when it comes to hunting clubs. His family has been into the gun club business since 1959 and started in Cash Slough. The Raahague’s family has operated 5 different clubs in both Southern and Northern California and, over the years, they have entertained many celebrities and professional football players.

The rolling hillsides provide plenty of cover for the birds and are easy to walk. The club is user friendly for any age wing shooter and makes hunting a pleasure with young dogs.

“One of the things we do here for young dogs is to show you how to plant the bird in the field and then give you a box of birds,” said Raahague. “Most pheasant clubs won’t take the time to do this and just dump the birds in the field.”  Raahague went on to say, “When you plant all the birds in the field at once, a young dog takes longer to find the birds and the birds may flush or run out of the field.”  Another added amenity is if a hunter does not have a dog, the club will furnish a guide with a dog for a small fee.

If you want to train your dog, they run a special $300 a year and the hunter can hunt between 12 noon to closing every day with no limit on the number of birds harvested. They also have a Custer cash shoot every second Saturday of each month starting at 8:30 am until dark.

So if you are a hunter, the waiting is over and it’s time to get that shotgun swing back into motion.
